The Gallows.

The photo show's all the acourtremons of the instrument needed to put convicted persons to death.
If you were sitting in the chair facing forward,on your right hand side, down in the “pit”,there are scratch-marks on the wall where the unfortunates tried to stop their drop with their feet and further down,a small hole where they kicked in their “death throes”.
I apologise for being so graphic, but it lends a little bit to the story I once told.
If I may, many years ago, when the prison had closed,I took a young Aboriginal girl(22),on the guided tour.
Having worked there,I knew the prison pretty well, and the tour had reached the Gallows.
I stayed outside, while the group went in for the talk about the last man hanged etc., and they'd been in there about 5mins., when she came out looking quite flustered,I asked what was wrong and she said, shakily,
she needed some air.
Later on in the Coffee Shop, she reluctantly started to talk about seeing people around the gaol.
(I will incorporate these and other stories in the photo's)
She said when they were in the Gallows, she looked down into the pit, and, saw a man standing there smiling at her.
Wiping the coffee off the table and me,I incoherently, said ,what!
She said that he was a smallish man with dark curly hair but,he had a “funny mouth”.
I pushed my lip up with a finger and said, like that?
She nodded!
The last man hanged in Fremantle Gaol, was Eric Edgar Cooke.
About 5'9-10”,dark curly hair,and a HARE LIP!
The hangman was a man from Melbourne,a butcher by trade and I think his name was Piermont(don't quote me,though).
The pay was 1pound 10shillings,plus expenses,per hanging,or 30 pieces of silver.

He had some great stories to tell us, some got lost in the site crash :shakehead:
Maybe you could tell us some of the stories you can remember

This may sound silly... As I typed that I got this feeling that is what he wants you to do... This may be the start of his contact with you through your memories...

I will try Delly, but it's still a bit hard to recall memories without getting emotional.

As you know, Dad had a certain way of telling stories....I don't know if I could spin them like he did :giggle:

he was a great story teller wasnt he, loved all the stuff he shared on here , don't know how the heck he stayed in that place as long as he did..

I reckon if you jot down bits and peices as you remember them the rest will come to you quite easily (with some help from you know who) then come back in here when you are ready and share his stories , how does that sound. :kisses:
